Tremella Mushroom Supplements
Tremella mushroom (Tremella fuciformis), also called the snow mushroom, is the functional mushroom people take for skin hydration from within. Its polysaccharides are known for holding water, much like hyaluronic acid. Our tremella capsules and powder use 100% fruiting body extract with no fillers.
What is tremella mushroom?
Tremella mushroom is a white, frilly, jelly-like fungus that grows on tree branches in warm, humid forests. In China it is called yin er, which means silver ear, and it has been used in beauty soups and desserts for centuries.
A well-known story says that Yang Guifei, one of the most famous beauties in Chinese history, ate tremella regularly for her skin. Whether or not the story is true, tremella has been part of Asian beauty traditions for a very long time.
Today, researchers study tremella mainly for its polysaccharides. These long sugar chains can hold large amounts of water, which is why tremella is often compared with hyaluronic acid, the molecule that keeps skin plump and hydrated. Read more on our Tremella ingredient page.
Why do people call tremella the beauty mushroom?
Tremella earned the name beauty mushroom because of its water-holding polysaccharides and its long history in Asian skincare and food. It is the only common functional mushroom that people take mainly for skin rather than for energy, focus or immunity.
People usually take tremella mushroom supplement for:
- Skin hydration, especially in dry winters or air-conditioned offices.
- A dewy, healthy look as part of an inside-out beauty routine.
- Antioxidant support, which also matters for skin.
- Healthy ageing, alongside sunscreen, sleep and a good diet.
Tremella also appears in many skincare creams and serums today. A supplement works from the inside, while creams work from the outside, so many people use both.
Which tremella supplement should you choose?
Both products use the same fruiting body extract. Choose by your routine.

Tremella capsules

Tremella powder
Tremella powder is almost tasteless, which makes it one of the easiest mushroom powders to use. Blend it into a fruit smoothie, stir it into green tea or add it to coconut water.
How does tremella compare with collagen and hyaluronic acid?
Tremella mushroom, collagen and hyaluronic acid are all linked to skin, but they are different things.
- Tremella is a plant-based mushroom extract with water-holding polysaccharides. It is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
- Collagen supplements are usually made from fish or cow skin and provide protein building blocks.
- Hyaluronic acid supplements provide the molecule directly.
If you follow a vegetarian diet, tremella is one of the few natural, plant-based options for an inside-out skin routine.
How is tremella mushroom traditionally eaten?
In China and much of East Asia, dried tremella mushroom is soaked, then slowly simmered with red dates, goji berries and rock sugar to make a sweet, silky soup. As it cooks, the mushroom releases its polysaccharides and the liquid turns thick and glossy. That texture is a simple, visible sign of how much water tremella mushroom can hold.
Our extract follows the same idea. The fruiting body is simmered in hot water, concentrated and dried, so you get the polysaccharides of a long-cooked tremella soup in a small daily serving.
What does a tremella mushroom supplements routine look like?
A simple routine is two tremella capsules with breakfast, plus two to three litres of water through the day. If you prefer the powder, blend it into a morning smoothie with banana, curd and berries. Keep your sunscreen and moisturiser as they are. Tremella mushroom supplements support skin from the inside, while your skincare protects it from the outside.
Who should take tremella mushroom supplements?
Tremella suits adults who want to support skin hydration from within. It is popular with:
- Women and men in their 30s and 40s who notice drier skin.
- People in dry climates or who spend long hours in air conditioning.
- Vegetarians and vegans who want a plant-based beauty supplement.
- Anyone building a complete beauty routine that includes diet, sleep and skincare.
How do you take tremella?
Take the label dose once a day, at any time, with or without food. Drink enough water through the day too, because hydration from within starts with what you drink.
How long does tremella take to work?
Skin renews itself roughly every four to six weeks, so be patient. Give tremella at least 8 to 12 weeks of daily use before you judge the difference.
What else helps your skin?
Tremella works best as part of a routine. Use sunscreen every day, sleep seven to eight hours, eat enough protein and colourful vegetables, and drink water. You can also add antioxidant mushrooms such as Chaga capsules to your routine.
Does tremella help with dry winter skin?
Many people start tremella in October or November, when skin begins to feel tight and dry. Because it works gradually, starting before winter gives it time to build up. Keep using a moisturiser as well.
Can you take it with other supplements?
Yes. Tremella pairs well with super greens powder for daily nutrition. It is also one of the seven mushrooms in our mushroom complex capsules.
How do you choose a good tremella supplement?
Check these points before you buy any tremella product:
- Latin name. Look for Tremella fuciformis.
- Fruiting body. Tremella's polysaccharides are concentrated in the fruiting body.
- Hot-water extraction. This releases the water-holding polysaccharides.
- Testing. Ask for heavy metal and microbial reports. Ours are on the certificates page.
Our tremella is grown in its Di Tao region, hot-water extracted and tested before filling.
Is tremella mushroom safe?
Tremella mushroom has a long history as a food in Asia and is well tolerated by most healthy adults at the label dose. Mild stomach upset is rare.
